Sarah Dorsch Wins Award of Excellence

Sarah Dorsch of Allenstown was the recipient of this year's "Award of Excellence" from the Northeast Chapter of the Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (NEAER). NEAER is the local chapter of an international organization of professionals serving children and adults who are visually impaired. Read more »

More than a dozen employees and sales associates of Century 21 Cardinal Real Estate, Nashua, hosted a yard sale that raised over $1,000 for the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. Read more »

In early September, members of the Blind Awareness Walk-A-Thon Committee gathered to present a plaque of appreciation to the Outback Steakhouse for their loyal and generous support of the Association's 4th Annual Blind Awareness Walk-A-Thon that was held on June 2, 2007.

Pictured are Marc-Damian Hartley, Manager, and some of the employees who worked at this year's Walk-A-Thon. The lunch was delicious and the Outback staff terrific. Thank you!
In Memory: Kenneth Howes

One of our staff members, Kenneth F. Howes (55) died suddenly on Saturday, September 8, 2007.

Ken held the position of Database Administrator since 2000. Earlier Ken was a self-employed master carpenter. Subsequently he attended NH Technical College to major in computer technology, earn an A.A.S. and be elected to the National Honor Society. Ken will be greatly missed.

Jo Adcock served as a member of the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind since 1996. She was Chair of the Client Services Committee, 2000 to 2006; and had served as Vice Chair of the Board's Executive Committee.

In these roles, Jo worked tirelessly to provide more services to clients throughout New Hampshire and powerfully championed their needs. Her legacy will not be forgotten.

New Technology Unveiled: Onyx

On June 13, 2007, Freedom Scientific held a low vision technology workshop at the McGreal Sight Center of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. At this meeting, Dusty Vorhees, Senior Product Manager, unveiled the newest addition to their low vision suite of products - the Onyx. This was the national debut of this product. The Onyx is a video magnification device which allows the user to magnify both near and distance targets. Read more »

The annual McGreal Society luncheon was held on May 17th at the Sight Center to thank and honor contributors who have included the Association in their estate plans or who have made a planned gift such as a gift annuity or trust.

The 4th Annual Blind Awareness Walk-A-Thon Raises over $30,000

More than 400 walkers turned out for the New Hampshire Association for the Blind's 4th Annual Blind Awareness Walk-A-Thon held in Concord on Saturday June 2nd. Walkers from across the state participated including one hundred walkers from the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester.

George Theriault, President and Chief Executive Officer of the New Hampshire Association for the Blind announced the promotion of Guy Woodland to Senior Vice President. Guy joined the management team of the Association in 1999 as the Vice President for Rehabilitation and Education.

Robert "Bob" Cholette of Laconia was elected Chairman of the Board for the New Hampshire Association for the Blind at the Association's Annual Meeting on November 9, 2006. Cholette has been a member of the Association's Board of Director's since 1999.

At the Association's November 9th Annual Meeting, Jan Halley, Program Director of M.I.C.E. (Multi-sensory Intervention through Consultation and Education) received a check to be used by their services which are geared to infants and young children, birth to age three, who are diagnosed or at risk for vision and/or hearing loss.
Spooky Silent Auction Raises Over $21,000 for Blind Association

It was a very successful first year for the New Hampshire Association for the Blind's Spooky Silent Auction which was held at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord on Saturday October 21, 2006.
